Perception of motion

Here are some more extraordinary images by Professor Kitaoka, in this case that cause us to perceive motion, even though they are all perfectly static.  

Warning: These images might make some observers feel sick.

 

3. Rotating Snakes

These snakes appear to rotate as your eyes glance across the image. The sense of motion is quite dramatic!

4. Pulsating circles

The circles appears to pulse and vibrate as your eyes roam. They also seem to shudder violently if you scroll the page up and down.  Try shaking it up and down with the mouse!
